Why we weave

Every rug we make starts as raw fibre in Rajasthan and ends on a floor somewhere in the world. In between there is a loom, a pair of hands, and a few days of patient work. We keep the patterns simple so the material can speak.

Materials

Four fibres. Nothing synthetic.

01Jute

01 — Jute

The golden fibre.

Grown in the monsoon and spun by hand, jute is strong, naturally golden and completely biodegradable. It takes dye lightly, which is why our jute rugs sit in soft, earthy tones. It is the backbone of almost everything we weave.

02 — Wool

Warmth and colour.

Hand-spun wool holds deep colour and springs back underfoot. We use it for our tufted checkerboards and for the coloured motifs in our kilims, where it brings a softness that jute alone cannot.

03 — Hemp

The quiet one.

Tougher than jute and slightly silver in tone, hemp softens with every year of use. We blend it into our checkered kilims for hallways and dining rooms, where a rug has to work hard and still look calm.

04 — Cotton

Soft and washable.

Cotton binds our borders, backs our tufted rugs, and becomes the whole rug in our chindi weaves, which are made entirely from strips of leftover fabric. Nothing in the workshop goes to waste.

How a rug is made

From fibre to floor in four patient steps.

No machines, no shortcuts. Every rug is made to order, which is why ours take days rather than hours.

  1. 1

    Fibre

Raw jute, wool and cotton are sorted by hand, washed, and spun into yarn. Colour is added here, in small dye lots, so every batch is slightly its own.

  2. 2

    Loom

Flat weaves and kilims are woven on a horizontal loom, thread over thread. Tufted rugs are built row by row with a hand tufting gun on a stretched cotton canvas.

  3. 3

    Finish

Edges are bound, fringes are knotted, and the rug is washed and dried in the Rajasthan sun. Then it is checked, corner to corner, before it is rolled.

  4. 4

    Ship

Wrapped, tracked, and shipped free to anywhere in the world. Custom sizes, colours and designs are welcome and priced the same honest way.
